Happy July of the Fourth!

EuroDateLots to talk about this week: Johnson and Jochen give me heat about England’s lack of World Cup progress; I complain about fireworks; the Kansas Cricks send a letter about British date format; ex-quiz guest Ed Gamble becomes a BBC America star; a 97-year-old lady accuses me of soliciting prostitutes; we marvel at the menu at British McDonald’s restaurants; and Stephen Merchant makes a case against American independence. Happy Birthday, America!

  1. howdy! i’m just playing podcast catch up. the segment where the Americans were trying British McDonalds food and their versions of what they THINK Americans eat reminds me of the English Pub Burger that came out a few years ago in America. As an experienced Anglophile, i knew something was foul in the state of Denmark about that burger. i think the bun was multigrain, and the burger had grilled onions, an undetermined variety of white cheese, and brown sauce. just for shits & giggles, my mother decided to try it, because i refused to. she dismantled it, took one look at it, and trashed it. hot mess. i’ll admit our attempt at copying a cultural food item was pretty bad, but it was not as bad as British McDonalds making American regional burgers. out of all the American versions of burgers i’ve seen, the Arizona burger was the worst. i had McDonalds the day i arrived in London, and didn’t notice the fries or the Filet-o-Fish tasting different. it’s cute when British food companies *try* to replicate American style foods and snacks. wrong (most of the time), but cute. i’ll be catching up with more episodes of the show tonight, thanks to the mid evening nap i took earlier that will keep me awake for the rest of the night. only 6 more shows to go….HUZZAH!
