imagesThis week, we discuss the bizarre British tradition that is Guy Fawkes Night: the annual celebration of a monumental failure. Then we chat about why British people are wearing paper poppies at the moment, and our chum Ron Choularton writes in about Desperate Dan. Later, Angus from the Stod Fold Brewing Company calls in to take the quiz, and tries to guess what a “cheese head” is; Johnson meanwhile tries to figure out which tribe lives in the “central reservation.”

  1. Oh Lord…. Another Friday morning on my commute to the City trying hard not to laugh out loud, and failing abysmally! Memories of standing around waiting – with bated breath – for the next firework to go off…. Would it or wouldn’t it… And yes …. BVL creeping back tentatively to re-light one… and stabbing at a Catharine Wheel to encourage it to spin…. All this in the f-f-freezing cold. But you kids had sparklers to amuse you……. and we had delicious jacket potatoes, smothered in butter and grated cheese and crispy bacon, spicy sausages and mugs full of steaming hot soup with crusty bread to keep us warm, and a great time was has by all… Honest!!

Yes – Remembrance Day is about honouring those who fell in the all of the wars fought over the last century, but the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal raises funds to help support in zillions of ways those who return from battle mentally and physically damaged – helping them and their families deal with the aftermath of war. Very much for the living.
